Overview

The Marsabit - Lake Turkana Festival Event will feature unique performances and cultural traditions from 14 ethnic communities: El Molo, Rendille, Samburu, Turkana, Dassanatch, Gabra, Borana, Konso, Sakuye, Garee, Waata, Burji and Somali. The presentation of the customs and living conditions of the fourteen tribes, their spectacular traditional costumes, arts and crafts, dances and music is a unique and fascinating experience – in particular in light of the stunning geographical characteristics and the limited general knowledge about the Lake Turkana and Marsabit County.

TICKET SASA heartily welcomes you and your friends for the adventurous 6 Day - 5 Night Camping Safari with emphasis on our rich Cultural Diversity.

Features

DAY ONE - Wednesday 11TH JUNE 2019

  • Nairobi - Samburu - Maralal (Approx 7 - 8 Hrs).
  • Meeting Time: 6:00AM.
  • Departure Time: 6:30AM.
  • Early morning departure from our central point in Nairobi city towards the rich central highlands and Kenya’s Northern Frontier. Enroute we get to appreciate the amazing Agricultural diversity. We stop at the equator sign for a photo session just before crossing into the Northern frontier. Lunch in a Nanyuki Town Hotel – own cost.
  • Maralal is a frontier town, the beginning of the Great Northern wilderness and the staging post for many great adventures. This simple town is a thriving centre for the local Samburu people, and the streets are always busy with camels, passing warriors and traders.
  • As we proceed, the broad arid plains give way to the spectacular Loroghi Hills and the high, wild Matthews ranges. Dry river beds course through this land, and have become the tracks and routes of nomadic camel trains. The wild country between Maralal and Turkana is ideal for the adventure seeker.
  • We pass by the massive flat topped Samburu sacred mountain known as Mount Ololokwe which is very scenic.
  • Meal Plan: Dinner.

DAY TWO – 12TH JUNE 2019

  • Maralal to Loiyangalani (Approx 8 Hrs drive)
  • On this day after breakfast, we embark on our journey to Loiyangalani where the festival takes place. Loiyangalani is a small town located on the south-eastern coast of Lake Turkana. The name means “a place of many trees” in the native Samburu language and is home to the El Molo, an almost extinct community, amongst other communities.
  • Its main industries include fishing, tourism and gold panning. Arrive for check in and thereafter spend your time relaxing and enjoying nature.
  • The view of Lake Turkana is particularly breathtaking and we stop for you to enjoy views with sightings of local fishermen/Turkana huts in the far distance. We pitch up tents in the cool grounds as we enjoy the superb Sunset.
  • Lake Turkana is the World's largest permanent Desert Lake
  • Depending on Time, we will visit the festival grounds where the Cultural Village and Inhabitants have set up.
  • Meal Plan: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner.

DAY THREE – 13TH JUNE 2019
