The NIDEC Conference was initiated in 2011 by the Design Kenya Society (DKS) in collaboration with the University of Nairobi, School of The Arts and Design. The main objective of NIDEC is to bring together design students, academia and other stakeholders to focus activities on integrative design thinking that harness creative solutions with intent of making a better Africa.
The NIDEC 2017 objective is to provide solutions that are more effective, efficient, desirable, useful and long lasting. NIDEC 2011 under the theme, ‘Design and industrial transformation’ focused on the role of a designer in the industry. The world today is currently viewing design as an agent of social and economic change.
NIDEC 2017 intends to address sustainable solutions for Africa’s social challenges using integrated design approaches. Design recognizes and encourages the transdisciplinary input of other sectors in social innovation, co-design, universal design, design for sustainability, service design and social design for Africa’s hybrid solutions.
