Block Your Calendars: Nairobi's Top 5 Events Are Happening Soon!

13
Feb

TGIF! Yes, thank God it’s February. January was quite the month and boy aren’t we glad that’s behind us. We’ve rounded up some of Nairobi’s biggest events that you should look out for, and definitely purpose to attend.

  1.  Jamhuri Reggae Festival
The Father of lovers rock Mr. Freddie McGregor will be in the 254. That’s right, the “Big Ship”  sensation will be serving some Caribbean flavour in Nairobi with his all time classics such as Gate Pass To Your Heart, Push Come to Shove, and Rastaman Camp. Joining him will be one of the real OGs of roots reggae - the Culture Band featuring Kenyatta Hill (son of the talented Joseph Hill). The icing on the cake for this spiritual gathering will be the Kenyan artists themselves. The Reggae Five (Nazizi/Ras Mtapa/Lavosti/Jahpila/Levysill) backed by The Roots Connection Band will be representing the local scene. You know where those tickets are.

  2. 2018 Barclays Kenya Open
It’s that time of the year again. Get ready to watch local and international golfers battle it out at the prestigious Kenya Open event. This year, on the 50th anniversary of the tournament, the prize money has doubled to an incredible Ksh. 62.5million. This is all thanks to a pledge by the GOK to promote this sport as well as an initiative by sponsors such as Barclays to put Kenya on the golfing map. So far 22 local golfers have been guaranteed to play at this tournament. If you still have no idea what golf is about but you’re keen on  attending, here’s a guide we wrote last year that’ll make you a golfing guru in less than 3 minutes.

  3. HypeFest Mr. Eazi
You might know Mr. Eazi from his hit song ‘Leg Over’. What you might not know, it’s your boy Eaziii, who’s a mechanical engineering graduate, will be headlining the HypeFest show right here in Nairobi. Whether you are a shoki person or alkayida is your thing, all you need to do is dance once that beat drops at the Ngong Racecourse on 8th of April.  Now, you can only do that if you get your ticket. Note that tickets are available exclusively on Ticketsasa.

  4. Grown & Sexxy with DJ Jazzy Jeff
If she doesn’t know who DJ Jazzy Jeff is, she’s too young for you bro or maybe you’ll need to refresh her memory with this jam. Whatever the case, Will Smith’s right hand man will be in town and we’re absolutely stoked to be hosting him. No stranger to the Billboard Hot 100, the Grammys and the sitcom The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, DJ Jazzy Jeff rocked the 90s as part of the duo DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince. He later tried his hand as a producer and was responsible for the success of the likes of Jill Scott, Talib Kweli, Musiq Soulchild and even Eminem. If you’re just as eager to meet this 90s icon as we are, here’s where you can get your ticket.

  5. Koroga Festival
An event that doesn’t need an introduction. We all know that a Koroga party is a real mean party. The first edition of the year is all about the queens. If you need a little bit more convincing, the proof is certainly in the pudding and we’ve got receipts to back it up. Early bird tickets are already available
